The very beginning of BU!

BU! Was born in Slovakia in 2009 as a vintage clothing, art and craft shop. Selling someone else’s products was not enough for such an imaginative creature as BU!. That is why it turned into art studio very quickly.

What does BU! do?

The first BU!’s domain is designing and sewing eco-friendly, soft toys. BU! loves all fabrics: old and new. Are you thinking about throwing away your grandpas old sweater? Have you ever realised that every single piece of clothing hides a kind of life inside? That’s how BU!'s brain works.

BU! to hug.

BU! creates wide range of individually designed products made from textiles. These toys are as well for kids as for adults. They are ideal to enjoy and to hug whenever you want. The offer for kids contains numerous animals and other beings in a full variety of colours and sizes. They are equally good to play with and to cuddle. If you fancy a toy that’s great as BU! can make it especially for you. Whatever your taste is BU! can prepare everything you are dreaming of – all colours, textures and sizes. There are no limits as long as it goes with BU!’s eco-friendly and recycling philosophy…

Who is BU!

My name is Anka Burakowska. I’m the business owner and creator.

The root of everything that I am now and the way I perceive the world is deep in the past when I was a little girl looking at my Grandma and Mum at their sewing machines, surrounded by all kind of colourful draperies and mountains of various fastenings. I loved to play with the buttons and used to perceive them rather as big hips of sweeties than sewing materials.

When I was about to decide what to do in my life I started fine arts studies at the Art Academy. Consequently, what I do is not only sewing stuffs. It is rather fashioning and bringing things from fabrics to life with a sewing machine as a tool.

Originally I’m from Poland but the idea of Bu! came up when I was living in Slovakia. Despite the fact that the first couple of years of the business in that country were pretty successful I’ve decided that I’m ready for changes. I’m hoping to get fresh life experience as well as new inspirations for my BU! creations by bringing BU! to Scotland.

BU! family and friends.

BU! is not only me. Despite I’m the main person in the business there are other people working together to make BU! prosperous. All my family in Poland helps me a lot. My Grandma and Mum give me a hand sewing and knitting. The male part of my family looks after all the technical and transport sides of the business. Family and friends help me also with gathering attractive textiles and other sewing components. Everyone is also more than welcome to help during the design process so I constantly get new stimuli. Because I travel a lot the group of people around BU! grows up with every year. The way my passion involves other individuals makes me truly proud and cheerful.
